Twenty-five outstanding high school seniors have signed letters-of-intent and/ or grants-in-aid to play football at UCLA, Bruin head coachJim Mora announced today. In addition, the class also includes a junior college transfer, one who signed in December and will attend school in the spring. Fifteen of the players attended school in the state of California, two-each in the states of Texas, Georgia and Arizona, and one from the states of Delaware, Hawaii, New York, New Jersey and Florida.

The class is ranked No. 11 nationally by Scout.com, No. 19 by ESPN and No. 12 by Rivals.com.

“We are confident that we have recruited a class of young men that will represent UCLA well, both on and off the field,” said coach Mora.

Ten of the new Bruins earned All-America honors from at least one publication. Defensive tackle Ellis McCarthy was a first-team USA Today All-America selection. McCarthy was also named to the Tom Lemming and SuperPrep All-America lists. Also on the Lemming list were QB Devin Fuller, DB Ishmael Adams, WR Jordan Payton and WR Javon Williams. Also appearing on the SuperPrep All-America list are McCarthy, Fuller, Payton, Adams, LB Jeremy Castro, LB Aaron Porter and DB Marcus Rios.

Sir Paul McCartney gets his star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame.

Continuing with Hollywood’s 125^th birthday celebration, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce that music legend Paul McCartney will be honored with his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. McCartney’s star will be lined up on the famed walk alongside his fellow Beatles, Ringo Starr, George Harrison and John Lennon in front of the famed historic Capitol Records building located at 1750 N. Vine Street. Presenting the star will be President and CEO Leron Gubler.

Paul McCartney was born in Liverpool on June 18, 1942. He was raised in the city and educated at the Liverpool Institute.

Having changed the world of music forever with The Beatles, McCartney has continued to push boundaries for more than 40 years as a solo artist, member of Wings, Brit award-winning classical composer, half of the experimental project The Fireman, and composer for the New York City Ballet with last year’s classical work Ocean’s Kingdom. His newest adventure is Kisses On The Bottom (out February 7 on Hear Music/Concord),a collection of standards beloved to Paul since childhood as well as two new McCartney compositions ‘My Valentine’ and ‘Only Our Hearts.’ Created with the help of Grammy Award-winning producer Tommy LiPuma and Diana Krall and her band—as well as guest appearances from Eric Clapton and Stevie Wonder—Kisses On The Bottom is the first record in McCartney’s historic oeuvre to feature him almost exclusively on vocals.

Following Monday’s performance of “Everyday Sunshine”, “Lyin’ Ass Bitch” intro (and we all remember that late night TV controversy…ahem…Michelle Bachmann) into “Crazy Glue” onJimmy Kimmel Live! we are proud to announce the documentary’s release today, February 1^st in honor of Black History Month. The film is being distributed via digital and home video by Cinema Guild, which will present the film exclusively as part of the celebration of Black History Month, and via home video starting February 21^st.

When Fishbone first emerged from California, no other band sounded or looked like them, and the weight of their innovative and iconic presence is still being felt decades later. Coinciding with the group’s 25^th anniversary, filmmakers Lev Anderson & Chris Metzler have directed a compelling new documentary, narrated by Laurence Fishburne. Everyday Sunshine: The Story of Fishbone is both a fascinating and brutally honest look at the band’s history for longtime fans, as well as a perfect entry point for newcomers.

Everyday Sunshine is a documentary about the band Fishbone, musical pioneers who have been rocking on the margins of pop culture for the past 25 years. From the streets of South Central-Los Angeles and the competitive Hollywood music scene of the 1980′s, the band rose to prominence, only to fall apart when on the verge of “making it.”

Laurence Fishburne narrates Everyday Sunshine, an entertaining cinematic journey into the personal lives of this unique Black rock band, and an untold story of fiercely individual artists in their quest to reclaim their musical legacy while debunking the myths of young Black men from urban America. Highlighting the parallel journeys of a band and their city, Everyday Sunshine explores the personal and cultural forces that gave rise to California’s legendary Black punk sons that continue to defy categories and expectations.

At the heart of Fishbone’s story is lead singer Angelo Moore and bassist Norwood Fisher who show how they keep the band rolling, out of pride, desperation and love for their art. To overcome money woes, family strife, and the strain of being aging Punk rockers on the road, Norwood and Angelo are challenged to re-invent themselves in the face of dysfunction and ghosts from a painful past.

The documentary includes interviews with: Gwen Stefani (No Doubt), Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Ice-T (rapper), Branford Marsalis (saxophonist), Perry Farrell (Jane’s Addiction, Porno For Pyros), Questlove (The Roots), and more. Kevin Nealon Shares His Comedy Genius With Santa Barbara Faithful At Lobero Theatre Show

During a night where he referenced everyone from Arnold Schwarzenegger to Jack Nicholson and talked about constipation and fatherhood, Kevin Nealon had the Santa Barbara faithful in the palm of his hand.

He has been a backbone of the comedy world for over 25 years. From his nine incredible seasons, during the greatest days of Saturday Night Live to his seven plus seasons on the Emmy Award winning Weeds, Nealon has brought the laughs and creativity, everywhere he has been. He’s played characters like Hanz and Franz (with Dana Carvey) to Mr. Subliminal Man and been the anchor of SNL’s Weekend Update (“that’s news to me”).

The amazing part of being at a Kevin Nealon show is his ability to captivate the audience with a massive amount of material. His every-day-life stories draw you in and his cerebral brand of comedy sends you into convulsions. Nealon rarely has to lower himself into being dirty or crass. You will rarely hear a swear word or be intentionally offended, as some of the newer comics have to do to get laughs. Nealon’s genius is that he looks and sounds like every man, yet has a comic sensibility that rivals anyone in the industry. This was the story of the night at the Lobero. You left feeling good about yourself and a bit lighter on your feet after having laughed for over an hour straight.

The Lobero Theatre is one of the gems of the Southern California scene. Situated in the heart of Santa Barbara, it’s art deco ceilings and arched entryways create a storybook look and feel to experience an event. The Lobero is California’s oldest, continuously operating theatre. Originally founded in 1873 and rebuilt in 1924, it is recognized as one of Santa Barbara’s architectural jewels and a State and City landmark.

Wayne Federman was a hilarious and spirited opener.

Nealon begins filming the eighth season of Weeds in early May 2012 and it will air in July. He also recently taped the pilot episode of ISABEL for NBC. It is a half hour, single camera comedy staring Marcia Gay Harden.

Nealon plays the Laugh Factory in Hollywood, this week and The Irvine Improv, Largo at Coronet, The Ice House in Pasadena and The Comedy & Magic Club in Hermosa Beach in February.

Angels Owner Arte Moreno Named 2011 Sports Executive Of The Year

Angels owner Arte Moreno, fresh off reeling in Albert Pujols and C.J. Wilson this offseason, has been named the 2011 Sports Executive of the Year by the Los Angeles Sports Council.

Moreno will be presented his award during the seventh annual LA Sports Awards, which celebrate the greatest moments of the year in the Los Angeles/Orange County area, on March 15 at Club Nokia at L.A. Live.

Moreno purchased the Angels from the Walt Disney Company in 2003, becoming the first Hispanic owner of a major sports team in the U.S. Under his watch, the Angels have made the playoffs five times and ranked in the top eight in the Majors in payroll for eight straight years, beginning in ’04.

This past season, the Halos outdrew the Dodgers for the first time. And on Dec. 8, Moreno spent nearly $330 million to sign both Pujols and Wilson to long-term contracts.

The awards show will be televised by FOX Sports West (air dates to be announced) and will also feature a countdown of the top 10 moments of ’11, along with the naming of the Sportsman, Sportswoman and Coach of the Year.

Moreno also won the executive award in ’05.
