LA Angels Acquire OF Vernon Wells From Toronto For Mike Napoli And Juan Rivera

The Angels finally got the big bat they desired…

In the biggest news of their offseason, the Angels are sending C/DH Mike Napoli and OF Juan Rivera to the Blue Jays in exchange for 3-time All-Star OF Vernon Wells. Wells is a 12 year veteran who had a comeback season in 2010, batting .273 with 31 home runs, a .515 slugging percentage and 88 RBIs.

The Angels had been trying to move Napoli since putting him on waivers at the end of last season (he was later pulled back off waivers). He led the Angels with 26 home runs in 2010.

There could be another move coming for LA. They may sign OF and leadoff hitter Scott Podsednik. He would play LF and allow Bobby Abreu to move to DH. The other possibility is the return of OF/DH Vlad Guererro. Vladdy would be the DH and Abreu would have to play LF. Reggie Willits and speedy Peter Bourjos are the candidates for the fourth OF spot.
