Nashville Music: Drake White’s “Benefit For The Brain” At The Ryman Opens Ticket Sales

August 28th At The Ryman, Lineup To Feature Randy Houser, Riley Green, Jamey Johnson and More

NASHVILLE, TENN. (July 14, 2023) – After announcing his star-studded, one-night-only charity concert earlier this week, tickets are now on sale for Country-Soul singer Drake White’s “Benefit for the Brain,” an inspirational night raising funds and awareness for mental and brain health.

Set for August 28 at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium and featuring performances by WhiteRandy HouserRiley GreenJamey Johnson and more, proceeds from the show will benefit a handpicked slate of partners representing three charitable pillars – military personnel and their families with a focus on PTSD and other related issues; child and adolescent brain health; and progressive research into alternative brain and stroke treatments, with distribution by White’s Big Fire Fund 501(c)(3) charity organization.

It’s a deeply important cause for White, who survived an onstage stroke in 2019 and was forced to relearn how to do almost everything. Discussing “Benefit for the Brain” and his ongoing recovery with The Tennessean, White spoke about his vision for the night – and his calling to bring attention to this need.

“I’m a paralysis survivor who thought I had lost the connection to myself, my parents, my wife, my guitar, pen and paper, forever,” White explained. “Then, by the power of God, I learned how to talk, walk, play guitar and re-learn an appreciation for what was at the foundation of who I am. Now, I can add my fans who stuck by me through all of this – and people I can now offer assistance to – into the mix.”

“Mental health isn’t what you want it to be, it’s what you need it to be,” he also said. “Acronyms and words that trigger people on social media aren’t enough to help people who may be at a desperate moment.”
Long hailed for his mix of swampy Southern Soul and Country roots, White was performing onstage when he suffered a stroke and collapsed in 2019. Left partially paralyzed and subsequently diagnosed with the rare vascular disorder, Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM), he is now determined to help others battle their own brain issues – and “Benefit for the Brain” is just one example of his drive.

News of the empowering benefit concert comes at the start of a brand-new creative chapter for White, who released his heartfelt new single “Spirit” at the end of June. A swaying traveler’s anthem with a hard-won sense of inner peace, the track was co-written by White with Leslie Satcher and Phil Pence, and marks the first taste of an upcoming project.
Looking ahead, White will continue to serve as an inspiration for those experiencing their own brain or mental heath struggle, spending the rest of the summer on tour from coast to coast. More information about new music will be announced soon, and you can check White’s website for his full tour itinerary.
Drake White grew up singing in his church’s youth choir in Alabama before becoming one of Country music’s most spirited innovators, earning four Top 40 hits and traveling the country on multiple nationwide tours. His 2013 debut single “Simple Life” introduced his brand of Country Soul, which he cemented with 2016 debut album SPARK followed by the EPs ‘Pieces’ and ‘Stars.’ In August 2019, he collapsed on stage due to a hemorrhagic stroke, and doctors told him he might never perform again. After undergoing a series of operations to repair his Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM) and months of physiotherapy, White has proved them wrong, returning to the road to spread his incredible positivity to his fans. In 2022 he embarked on his headline THE OPTIMYSTIC TOUR, which spanned dates in the US and the UK. His latest album, THE OPTIMYSTIC, is an inspiring glimpse into the journey he has taken over the past few years, and the “extremely accomplished album” (American Songwriter) delivers a “powerful message” (Nashville Lifestyles) via White’s “smooth brand of country-soul” (Billboard). White has received accolades including Rolling Stone’s 10 Country Artists You Need to Know, The Grammy’s Artist of Tomorrow and the British CMA Awards’ International Song of the Year and has shared the bill with Country music superstars like Luke Bryan, Eric Church and Zac Brown Band.
