Quick Look: Daniel Lanois And Black Dub At The El Rey Theatre In Hollywood
Musical legend and mega producer (U2, Bob Dylan, Peter Gabriel, Neil Young) Daniel Lanois and Black Dub brought their soulful, eclectic sound to the packed El Rey Theatre on Friday night. Black Dub features Brian Blade on drums, Lanois, Trixie Whitley on vocals/drums/keyboards and Daryl Johnson on bass. They are a skilled and complex mix of musical talent, thrown together in a jazz-like open style of rock fusion. After a Buckley-esque opening set by Kiefer Sutherland-promoted Rocco Deluca, Lanois and company put on a set that pleased the more seasoned LA crowd. FYI: Daryl Johnson was not on stage with Black Dub for the 01/28/11 show at The El Rey; it was JIM WILSON (Mother Superior and Rollins Band) that sat in on bass for Daryl Johnson that night.
