Quincy Jones Bringing Stars Together For “We Are The World” Remake For Haiti
Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie are putting together a lineup of mega-stars for a 25th anniversary re-recording of “We Are The World.” It is looking like the recording will take place during Grammy weekend- probably February 1st- at the Nokia Theatre in LA. They will ask Grammy-goers to stay an extra night in LA.
It was 1985 when Michael Jackson, Jones, Richie and Ken Kragen organized the original “We Are The World.”
This project was already in the works before the earthquakes in Haiti. But, the tragedy has changed it and now all proceeds will go to relief in Haiti. The 1985 project raised money for Africa relief and was a component in spawning Live Aid.
Here’s the best part: Reports are that co-writer Michael Jackson will be involved! Jackson had recorded “We Are The World” for his upcoming “This Is It” tour. It will be fascinating to see how the producers use MJ to bring an even greater power to the song and video.
AEG will be a co-producer on this event as well as Grammy producer Ken Ehrlich. Artists attached so far are Usher, Natalie Coe and John Legend. More names should start pouring in soon.
There is word that Quincy Jones is about to release a new album where he collaborated with many R & B and Hip Hop artists.
An exciting time for music…
Enjoy and remember:
