Radiohead: Thom Yorke Names His Side Project

You may remember Thom Yorke’s band who played with the name “??????” last year in Los Angeles.  Well, this spring they will be headed out on tour with an actual name.

The band is comprised of Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, Mauro Refosco (of Forro in the Dark), Joey Waronker (who’s played with R.E.M. and Beck) and longtime Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich.

On Radiohead’s website:  “We had too much fun to just leave it there,” said Yorke of the then-unnamed group’s first live outing. “It has been decided that we call ourselves Atoms for Peace. hope you like the name…it seemed bleedin’ obvious.”

“Atoms for Peace” is also a song on Yorke’s 2006 solo album, The Eraser, but the phrase comes from a speech by President Dwight Eisenhower on how atomic energy could be harnessed for peaceful purposes.

Atoms For Peace will be playing at Coachella this year on April 18th.  Here is the rest of their spring tour:
